Moving Companies That Had Zero Complaints Last Year and 50+ This Year

Safe Ship Moving Services has 321 NCCDB complaints across 2025 and 2026. Howards Vanlines has 166. Value Added Moving has 130. By the time these companies reached these numbers, hundreds of families had been overcharged, had their belongings held hostage, or had their items damaged or lost.

Every one of these companies was once at zero. The question is: can we identify the next Safe Ship while it is still at 15 or 20 complaints, before it reaches 200?

We queried our database for companies with zero or near-zero complaints in 2025 that are accumulating complaints rapidly in 2026. These are the companies to watch.

These companies had minimal complaints in 2025 (1 to 3) and have exploded in 2026:

Rapid Express Moving and Storage (DOT 3913780): 2 in 2025, 31 in 2026. Fleet size: 1 truck. This company had 1 complaint in 2023, 1 in 2024, 2 in 2025, then 31 in 2026. A 15x year-over-year increase.

Applause Moving and Storage Inc (DOT 4095495): 1 in 2025, 23 in 2026. Fleet size: 1 truck. A 23x increase.

Southwest American Moving LLC (DOT 4399320): 1 in 2025, 17 in 2026. Fleet size: 1 truck.

American Hills Moving and Storage Inc (DOT 4128186): 5 in 2025, 25 in 2026. Fleet size: 9 trucks. A 5x increase, but notably this company has more trucks than most on the list.

Midwest Moving Experts (DOT 3852156): 3 in 2025, 15 in 2026. Fleet size: 3 trucks.

The companies on this list share features that distinguish them from legitimate operations:

Fleet size: 10 of the 17 companies listed above report 0 trucks (pure brokers). 5 report 1 truck. Only 2 report more than 1 truck. Legitimate large carriers like Allied Van Lines (1,056 trucks, 33 complaints in 2026) generate far fewer complaints per truck.

Age: Most are new registrations. JCS Moving was registered in March 2026. Choice Vanlines was registered the same month. Titan Moving Group and State 2 State Relocation are also recent registrations. New companies generating double-digit complaints within months of registration is the hallmark of a fraud operation, not a startup learning curve.

Geography: Several are based in South Florida (Boca Raton, Boynton Beach) or are connected to South Florida broker networks through FMCSA data. Top Nation Relocation is at 7999 N Federal Highway in Boca Raton, an address linked to other entities in our corporate filings database.

Chameleon tagging: JCS Moving and Storage is already flagged by FMCSA as a Chameleon Carrier, meaning it is connected to a prior bad actor. Yet it continues to operate.

Consider the timeline of a fraud mover without early intervention:

Month 1 to 3: 10 to 15 complaints. The company is establishing operations, running ads, collecting deposits. Month 4 to 6: 30 to 50 complaints. Volume is increasing as the advertising budget grows. Month 7 to 12: 80 to 150 complaints. The company is now on pace for a full-year total comparable to Safe Ship or Howards Vanlines. Year 2: 150 to 300 complaints. If the company survives to year two, it has now harmed hundreds of consumers. Some fraction will file complaints. The actual number of harmed consumers is likely 3 to 5 times the complaint count, based on research suggesting most dissatisfied consumers never file formal complaints.

If a company generates 15 complaints in its first 90 days, and each complaint represents 3 to 5 actual harmed consumers, that is 45 to 75 people already affected. By the time the company reaches 200 complaints (a year or two later), the actual harm extends to 600 to 1,000 consumers.

Catching the company at 15, rather than 200, could prevent 500 or more consumers from being victimized.

FMCSA's Motus registration system processes new carrier and broker applications. It does not cross-reference complaint velocity from prior entities. A person whose previous moving company accumulated 200 complaints can register a new company and begin operating immediately.

JCS Moving and Storage demonstrates this failure and this partial success. FMCSA did tag it as a Chameleon Carrier, which means someone at the agency recognized the connection to a prior bad actor. But the tag is informational, not operational. JCS is tagged as a chameleon and still authorized. Still taking bookings. Still generating complaints.

The Motus system also does not flag addresses. A new carrier registering at 85 Wagaraw Road in Hawthorne, NJ, where multiple Safe Ship network carriers have operated, would not trigger any automated review. A new broker registering at 7999 N Federal Highway in Boca Raton, where Top Nation Relocation and other entities are based, would not trigger a flag.

The data for early detection exists in databases the government already operates. The NCCDB has complaint data in real time. SAFER has fleet sizes and addresses. Corporate filing databases have officer names and shared addresses. Connecting these data sources would not require new legislation. It would require a policy decision to build the connections and act on what they reveal.

Based on complaint velocity, fleet size, registration recency, and address patterns, these companies warrant the closest monitoring in Q4 2026:

USA Moving Group (DOT 4515840): Zero-truck broker, 21 complaints, new to the complaint database. JCS Moving and Storage (DOT 4526003): Already tagged as a Chameleon Carrier. 20 complaints in 5 months. Rapid Express Moving (DOT 3913780): 15x year-over-year increase with 1 truck. Applause Moving (DOT 4095495): 23x year-over-year increase with 1 truck. Global Trans Van Lines (DOT 4485687): 20 complaints with 3 trucks, newly appeared in complaint data.

If these companies follow the trajectory of Howards Vanlines or Value Added Moving, they will each have 50 to 100 or more complaints by year end. The pattern is identifiable now. Whether anyone acts on it is a different question.
