The Addresses Where 10+ Moving Companies Are Registered: Fraud Hub Mapping

When ten moving companies share one address, there are two possible explanations. The first is that the address belongs to a major van line headquarters, where subsidiary brands operate under one corporate umbrella. The second is that someone is running a factory for disposable moving companies, creating new LLCs when old ones accumulate too many complaints.

Trunk queried its database of 2,231 federally registered household goods carriers, grouped them by registered address, and mapped the results. The findings fall into both categories, and knowing the difference is critical for consumers.

Some shared addresses are exactly what they appear to be.

1 Premier Drive, Fenton, MO 63026 has six registered carriers: Abbey Van Lines, Alite Van Lines, Avan Van Lines, Mayflower Van Lines, North Star Van Lines, and Pilgrim Van Lines. This is UniGroup's headquarters. UniGroup owns Mayflower and United Van Lines and operates subsidiary brands from the same campus. Six companies, one corporate parent, one physical operation.

101 East Washington Blvd Suite 1100, Fort Wayne, IN 46802 has five: Allied Van Lines, Cartwright Van Lines, North American Van Lines of Texas, North American Van Lines Inc., and World Class Van Lines. This is SIRVA's headquarters, the parent company of Allied and North American Van Lines.

815 South Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32207 has six carriers including Armstrong Moving and Storage, Cowen Moving and Storage, and U.S. Van Lines. These are established carriers sharing a warehouse and logistics campus.

These addresses are not red flags. They represent corporate consolidation in a fragmented industry.

This address tells a different story. Trunk found four registered HHG carriers at 30 Sherwood Lane across different suite numbers:

Fairfield, NJ is a small borough in Essex County. Sherwood Lane is a light industrial area. Unlike the UniGroup campus in Fenton, MO, there is no national van line headquartered here. Multiple carriers sharing suite numbers at a small industrial address in northern New Jersey is a pattern consistent with shell company rotation: when one company accumulates enough complaints to trigger FMCSA scrutiny, a new entity is formed at the same address with different officers.

The companies at this address operate as carriers that receive dispatches from Florida-based brokers. The Fairfield address provides a physical warehouse location in the Northeast corridor, which is necessary for consolidating shipments from multiple brokers into single truckloads.

Some fraud hubs are not single addresses. They are entire ZIP codes.

Pompano Beach, Florida has 24 registered HHG carriers in Trunk's database. For a city of 112,000 people, that is one moving company for every 4,667 residents. By comparison, Jacksonville (population 950,000) has 18.

The Pompano Beach carriers are spread across dozens of addresses, but certain clusters stand out:

These are office suites and strip mall units, not warehouses. Many of these companies operate as brokers: they take deposits, dispatch to carriers elsewhere, and maintain a minimal physical presence at their registered address.

This address is registered to Colonial Van Lines Inc, which appears twice in federal records (with and without a suite number). Colonial Van Lines also has a separate Texas registration as Colonial Van Lines of Texas, Inc, registered at the same Pompano Beach address.

The DiSorbo family name has appeared in connection with this address in public records and industry discussions. The address sits in the light industrial corridor of western Pompano Beach, alongside dozens of other registered carriers within a one-mile radius.

What makes the 1441 SW 29th Ave cluster notable is not just the single address but the surrounding density. Within the 33069 ZIP code alone, Trunk identified carriers at SW 10th Ave, NW 15th Ave, NW 22nd St, NW 27th Ave, NW 33rd St, W Atlantic Blvd, and W Copans Road. The western half of Pompano Beach functions as a broker district.

This is the registered address of Safe Ship Moving Services, the single most-complained-about company in Trunk's database with 404 tracked complaints. Safe Ship operates as a broker, collecting deposits from consumers across the country and dispatching moves to third-party carriers.

The Beacon Square address is notable because Safe Ship's complaint volume alone would justify scrutiny of any address associated with it. Trunk has documented Safe Ship's pattern of demanding signed releases in exchange for partial refunds of $250, requiring consumers to delete negative reviews and agree to group departure (withdrawing regulatory complaints) as conditions of settlement.

The Vellar family name has appeared in connection with this address in public filings and consumer complaints.

This address in LA's industrial east side is registered to KF Moving LLC. Trunk's investigation has also connected this address to LoadRans, a carrier that has appeared in multiple consumer complaints involving hostage loads on the West Coast.

Perrino Place is a warehouse district near the I-10 and I-5 interchange, the junction point for moves heading east from Los Angeles or south to San Diego. The location makes logistical sense for a carrier consolidating shipments. Whether the companies operating from this address are legitimately separate businesses or variations on one operation is a question that address-level analysis alone cannot answer. But the presence of multiple carrier names at a single warehouse address in LA's industrial core follows the same structural pattern as the Sherwood Lane and Pompano Beach clusters.

1. Get the company's USDOT number from their website or estimate. Every interstate mover must have one.

2. Look up the USDOT at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov. The registration shows the company's physical address.

3. Search that address on Trunk. If other companies are registered at the same location, we will show you.

4. Search the address on Google Maps. Is it a warehouse, an office building, a strip mall, or a residential home? A legitimate mover needs space for trucks, equipment, and storage. A broker needs only a desk.

5. If the address is a virtual office, mailbox service, or residential home, that does not mean the company is fraudulent. But it means the company does not have trucks at that location, which means they are brokering your move to someone else.

6. Count the companies. One or two companies at a warehouse address is normal. Five or more companies at a small office suite is a pattern worth investigating. Ask the company directly: who else operates from your address, and are you a broker or a carrier?

Address clustering is not proof of fraud. It is a leading indicator. The legitimate clusters (UniGroup, SIRVA, Armstrong) represent corporate families with decades of operating history, insurance, and claims processes. The problematic clusters represent something else: an infrastructure for creating, operating, and discarding moving companies at a pace that outstrips regulatory enforcement.

FMCSA does not currently flag shared addresses in its consumer-facing tools. A consumer searching for a mover at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov sees one company at a time. They have no way to know that four other companies share the same suite. Trunk built this analysis to fill that gap.
