“Bookstore are well worth the price. Their rates are very competitive with other professional options, they are fully insured, they will arrive on time, they will have the necessary equipment to do the job quickly and safely, and they will treat you and your property with respect. At ~$300, you're looking at something like a TaskRabbit worker who is doing this as a side gig.”

“I used Bookstore during the pandemic and cannot say enough good things about them. They wrapped up all my furniture like I was moving to the next state and I was just going a mile away. They loaded/unloaded quickly and safely. They got my loveseat down to the finished basement without damaging anything. I would have bet money it wouldn't fit through the doorway. I hope they're available for my next move or I'm never getting this thing out!”
u/bitter_bee in r/r/washingtondc+10
“Bookstore is fantastic. I used them when moving from my apartment to my house and they were just great, super professional, careful, efficient, didn't complain about the absurdly abnormal number of boxes I had, took great care of all my furniture, and unloaded everything into the right rooms using my color coded boxes/floor plan diagram. I found their price to be extremely reasonable for the work performed.”
u/Zoethor2 in r/r/washingtondc
“I've used Bookstore probably 4 times and will use them again. They aren't cheap, but they were competitive among other companies recommended to me, sometimes costing less. They will charge you for a 4 hour minimum, but their people work fast, so depending on the size of your move and how far you're going, it will probably come up well short of 4 hours. One move took 45 minutes door to door to paperwork. And when I say they work quickly, they are still careful and know what they're doing. If you're financially secure enough to pay for movers, I'd say pay for work you can trust, and from one internet stranger to another, I trust Bookstore.”
u/thegardenhead in r/r/washingtondc+52
“I've used Bookstore three times and they've always been faster than estimated! I think that's so important to take into account because some other companies might give you a better estimate but then charge you more and there's nothing you can do about it at that point.”

“I have moved a lot in the DC area and used a lot of different companies. Bookstore costs me, but they are a lot more reliable, efficient, and just overall not shady. Yes you do pay more but you get what you pay for.”
u/Gilmoregirlin in r/r/washingtondc
“Seconded. Their hourly rate might be higher, but the folks from Bookstore HUSTLED every minute of loading/unloading. And they did it w/o breaking anything or scuffing walls on either end of our move.”

“Absolutely! Some of the other ones purposely drag it out so that they can charge you for more hours, so in the end even though the hourly rate is lower, you end up paying more. Bookstore does not do that.”

“We used Bookstore Movers a few years ago, and in addition to making our move seamless, they ended up being more efficient than originally estimated, so they charged us less than the actual quote, with no hesitation or attempts to hustle us. Loved that about them. That being said more recently we also hired Gentle Giant for a really specific need (not actually moving but a very tricky furniture hauling situation) and they were also wonderful.”

“Bookstore Movers, moving from a studio to a one bedroom, they quoted $500 for 2 hours. It ended up taking them longer than they expected, and my final bill was $750 before tax and tip. They did the best they could given that the studio was in a basement and the only way out was up a long steep flight of stairs.”

| 5/5 | TLDR: I am incredibly disgusted, disappointed by my moving experience on 2/24 with the manager, Jason or Justin. I asked to speak to the manager with a problem during my move and was told, why are you speaking to me aggressively, I don't understand. You are being aggressive. Never in my 10 year corporate career have I been called aggressive. Apparently a woman being assertive about an issue she is having is deemed aggressive. Apparently, speaking up makes me aggressive? That is an incredibly strong and inflammatory word. For context, in the past 4 years I've moved 8 times, including 2 cross country moves. I don't ever forget to mention my storage unit. He uses that word at least 3 times. At this over $900, I literally only asked for 5 hours. I told him do not ever call me aggressive, ever. I was so appalled and disappointed, and I ended the call. | A Warren | |
| 5/5 | I'll come back and provide a more detailed review with photos and names. However, for now just note: 1. Their packers did not complete their job and did not even bring enough materials. They also stuffed my clothing in boxes without any respect (not wardrobe boxes). They put glass-to-glass without any regard. 2. The movers did not remove any furniture legs and did not protect my furniture. I ended up with TWO pieces of furniture with legs ripped off. This is my seventh move in 14 years. I've used large companies and small companies. This is by far the WORST experience I have had. | April Gray | |
| 5/5 | I cannot recommend the folks at Bookstore Movers enough!!! They were professional, helpful, and very efficient. They moved our 1 bed 2 bath house in under 3 hours and not a single thing was broken or lost! They dismantled and reassembled our furniture as well. I have not move again anytime soon but if I have to, I know who to call. Thank you so much Bookstore Movers! | Claire Jordan | |
| 5/5 | This is without a doubt the best moving company in the DMV. We have used them three times and most recently to help pack and load a storage container for a cross country move. Everyone we encountered from customer service, to the packers, to the moving team was kind, efficient, and hard working. The price was fair. I am truly grateful to the whole team to Bookstore Movers for taking a significant amount of stress out of a very stressful time. Highly recommend to anyone in need of moving services! | Molly Callaghan | |
| 5/5 | Bookstore Movers was GREAT. I've never had a move of any type go so smoothly before. They showed up on time, packaged and took care of my items easily, drove the 30mi mminute for my local move, and unpacked on the other side DC efficiently. They fully made it as painless as moving items could possibly be. AND they were done on time?! Literally never heard of it. Thank you!! | Sheila Rajappal | |
| 5/5 | We worked with them recently for a move from NE DC to NW DC. The movers were really friendly and helpful. We had a little issue occur during the move and worked with Josh to address it. I have to say he went above and beyond to problem solve and we were extremely satisfied with the resolution. Overall a good experience working with them! | Jacqueline Sanches | |
| 5/5 | I have used Bookstore movers twice now and both experiences have been great. The teams have been great communicators and work so hard to keep the move progressing efficiently. They were easy to book and their office team communication proactive as well. I recommend them to anyone who is looking for movers, and their rates are very competitive. Very grateful for this team! | Mary Jane Gilliland | |
| 5/5 | Bookstore Movers saved the day yesterday after All My Sons Moving and Storage left us stranded. We booked them at 3 PM yesterday, and were at our apartment by 6 PM and sat and done with our move by 10:30 PM. I cannot recommend this moving company enough. They are quick, efficient, won't damage your stuff, and real genuine. If I ever move again, they will be the first company I call. THANK YOU AGAIN!! | Miriam Reff | |
| 5/5 | I had put a post on reddit asking for suggestions for movers in the area and Bookstore Movers was recommended by almost every person who responded. Patrick and his crew, Reynaldo, Nivar, Darrell and Kevin, exceeded the already high expectations I had based upon the reviews. I will happily recommend Bookstore to family and friends and will never use another moving company. | Lauren | |
| 5/5 | I cannot speak more highly of Bookstore Movers. We have used them twice and we are always so grateful for their work and so impressed! They make moving look so easy. | Rachel Hollander | |

| 2/5 | Unfortunately, I cannot justify giving Bookstore Movers any more than 2 stars. I hired Bookstore Movers this past week for a 1-bedroom move within DC from NoMa to Navy Yard. I discovered and decided to hire them due to their overwhelming positive reviews online (Reddit, Google, etc). Unfortunately, the overall move experience and value was extremely lacking. The movers were communicative about their arrival time they arrived near the tail-end of their estimated arrival window. After packing and moving my items out to their truck for about 2 hours, they let me know that they had only brought 2 wardrobe boxes. I had reached out to them for a quote, provided an exhaustive list of all the items I would be moving, and requested 8 wardrobe boxes. They eventually arrived and delivered all of the belongings they had in the truck. The final total to pay was notably higher than what was originally quoted due to the amount of time that had passed ($700-900 quoted, I paid ~$1.1K). I think it can be objectively said that it is absolutely crazy to pay $1.1K before tip to move a 1-bedroom apartment from one building with an elevator in NoMa to another building with an elevator in Navy Yard. | Justin Liu | |
| 1/5 | Movers showed up on time but were not respectful of my things and rushed. When I gave them direction such as not rolling a marble table as it would chip, they were dismissive. Likewise when I asked that multiple people carry a table to not damage it and my walls. The most egregious was with my tv. A mover picked up a 65 inch tv from the center lifting it overhead, cracking the frame and ruining the tv. It was aggressively dumb. To make it worse they put the tv in my basement, a decision known to hide it and one that by the way was against my wishes. I did not notice immediately after I noticed and reached out the movers, who admitted to breaking the tv and put me in touch with virtually unresponsive management. | Kevin Sheppard | |
| 1/5 | This service moved my roommate today and a member of the team stole money from my purse hanging by the door. The rest were moving things to the back yard to load up the truck so I ran to the back after the movers left, I found my purse open and my money gone. It was in my purse a couple hours before they came over. They even moved my apartment key building and door car keys so they knew before the scheduled time (something I thought was kind at the time) so I didn't have the chance to keep my belongings safe. I emailed the business and gave them a chance to rectify it. The owners response was to tell me to file a police report and he could from the money. I was fugged for months. Not only was the response extremely disrespectful, it showed complete disregard for the situation. I will be filing a police report ASAP because these are the things worse than losing your hard earned money stolen. Please use this service with caution. | Dayo Kadree | |

| 1/5 | Their workers in DC are the worst! They Rude, talk aggressively to their customers I do not like how some movers come with the truck and then you have some movers drive their own car which I have no issue with I just would like for them to put a uniform in place I did not know who was who! | 1/5 | We were eager to use Bookstore after a good experience in 2016. Unfortunately, our recent experience in February 2019 was very disappointing. The crew was late and extremely hurried. They damaged a historic dresser and left numerous marks in walls. Overall, the movers were unprofessional and unpleasant. Follow-up on the damage has been slow and so far unsuccessful. We worked with them recently for a move from NE DC to NW DC. The movers were really friendly and helpful. We had a little issue occur during the move and worked with Josh to address it. I have to say he went above and beyond to problem solve and we were extremely satisfied with the resolution. Overall a good experience working with them!

I have used Bookstore movers twice now and both experiences have been great. The teams have been great communicators and work so hard to keep the move progressing efficiently. They were easy to book and their office team communication proactive as well. I recommend them to anyone who is looking for movers, and their rates are very competitive. Very grateful for this team!

Bookstore Movers saved the day yesterday after All My Sons Moving and Storage left us stranded.

I had put a post on reddit asking for suggestions for movers in the area and Bookstore Movers was recommended by almost every person who responded. Patrick and his crew, Reynaldo, Nivar, Darrell and Kevin, exceeded the already high expectations I had based upon the reviews. I will happily recommend Bookstore to family and friends and will never use another moving company.
Lauren
I cannot speak more highly of Bookstore Movers. We have used them twice and we are always so grateful for their work and so impressed! The team shows up and we get to fall through everything real quick, communication was great, and then they started hauling. Everything was treated with great care and caution. They make moving look so easy.
Rachel Hollander
Patrick led his crew, Renalhy, Mace, Samuel and they exceeded the already high expectations. They just flowed as a team of 5 and Patrick was an excellent leader.

$149/hr for 3 man min plus $99 truck fee. Mick, Miamor TC, and Billy were all so fast and friendly. Wrapped every item with care. Job finished in 2 hours despite 95 degree heat and four flights of stairs.
Anna S.
Keith and his crew could not have been more stellar! Prices are so competitive. They did as great a job as movers who charged $1.3K more.
Blair D.
Harold led 5 movers. Wrapped furniture and moved it so gently and carefully. Made sure she was happy with placement. Professional and courteous.

AJ Moving Services took excellent care moving furniture pieces from my Grandma. Movers were friendly. Great experience.
Kimberley M
Long distance move. Every item arrived in perfect condition. Entire process completely stress-free thanks to flawless execution.
Kristina S
Javier, Dennis, and Elio were professional, efficient, and incredibly careful. They even set up our dining table! $801-$1,000 for local move.
Joshua Jean-Jacques
Highly recommended for office moves! Disassembled, transported, and reassembled all heavy furniture with incredible care and efficiency.
Fernando Carranza
I inherited a sentimental piece of furniture from my Grandma. AJ Moving Services took excellent care moving the piece from her house to mine.
Kimberly H
Polite and professional team moved our belongings safely, faster than expected and for less than our original estimate.
Daniel
I recently completed a long distance move, and I can't say enough good things about AJ Moving Services.
Kristine S
Bookstore are well worth the price. Their rates are very competitive with other professional options, they are fully insured, they will arrive on time, they will have the necessary equipment to do the job quickly and safely, and they will treat you and your property with respect. At ~$300, you're looking at something like a TaskRabbit worker who is doing this as a side gig.
noblake
I used Bookstore during the pandemic and cannot say enough good things about them. They wrapped up all my furniture like I was moving to the next state and I was just going a mile away. They loaded/unloaded quickly and safely. They got my loveseat down to the finished basement without damaging anything. I would have bet money it wouldn't fit through the doorway. I hope they're available for my next move or I'm never getting this thing out!
bitter_bee
Bookstore is fantastic. I used them when moving from my apartment to my house and they were just great, super professional, careful, efficient, didn't complain about the absurdly abnormal number of boxes I had, took great care of all my furniture, and unloaded everything into the right rooms using my color coded boxes/floor plan diagram. I found their price to be extremely reasonable for the work performed.

I've used Bookstore probably 4 times and will use them again. If you're financially secure enough to pay for movers, I'd say pay for work you can trust, and from one internet stranger to another, I trust Bookstore.
thegardenhead
I've used Bookstore three times and they've always been faster than estimated! I think that's so important to take into account because some other companies might give you a better estimate but then charge you more and there's nothing you can do about it at that point.
ChaosStoplessCost
I have moved a lot in the DC area and used a lot of different companies. Bookstore costs me, but they are a lot more reliable, efficient, and just overall not shady. Yes you do pay more but you get what you pay for.
Gilmoregirlin
Seconded. Their hourly rate might be higher, but the folks from Bookstore HUSTLED every minute of loading/unloading. And they did it w/o breaking anything or scuffing walls on either end of our move.
ghostsonman
Absolutely! Some of the other ones purposely drag it out so that they can charge you for more hours, so in the end even though the hourly rate is lower, you end up paying more. Bookstore does not do that.
Gilmoregirlin
Whatever Bookstore Movers tells me it will cost, I'll pay. I don't trust anyone else.
DCmetrossessurf
We used Bookstore Movers a few years ago, and in addition to making our move seamless, they ended up being more efficient than originally estimated, so they charged us less than the actual quote, with no hesitation or attempts to hustle us. Loved that about them. That being said more recently we also hired Gentle Giant for a really specific need (not actually moving but a very tricky furniture hauling situation) and they were also wonderful.
haunteddionveyes
I had a good experience with Bookstore Movers. They were late, but they didn't charge for 2 hours. We also had them do a second move and everything went fine.
AwesomeAndy
$1000, Bookstore movers, loved them, they made moving significantly less stressful. $750sqft 1bedroom apartment full of stuff.

I've had two good luck with Bookstore Movers (2x).
adalagin611
UPDATE: you guys convinced me, I'm gonna go with bookstore movers after all. I've never used professional movers before and the mixed reviews on other moving services scared me haha
OP
I used Anytime a couple weeks ago and had a great experience. It cost $650 compared to the $1000+ quote I got from Bookstore
marc340
Bookstore: good moves. Handled not having the perfect parking spot because everyone ignores the signs it seems. Took my no elevator third floor walk ups like pros.
tailsthewhale
I used Bookstore Movers and it was also all through email (which honestly I preferred as someone who hates talking on the phone.) I don't think email is a red flag.
simplyparmesan
Bookstore Movers are great.
ladykensington
I concur. I used them two weeks ago to move into our house. They were fantastic. On time, efficient, friendly. Couldn't have been better
SolidActiveLounger
We used them last year and they were perfect. 10/10
scene_missing
Actually, I went with them last time we moved (based on Reddit liking them), and definitely wasn't good.
intu-alt
I used Bookstore Movers on a recommendation from a coworker who's used them multiple times.
sqfreak
Bookstore movers for the past 2 apartment moves. Stellar service both times and reasonable price
Grand_Call151
Bookstore movers, hands down the best and most reliable
Ok-Accountant4383
They are extremely considerate of your stuff and treat it like it is their own. They are also great problem solvers. Used them three times, recommend them all the time. Ask for Codi.
toomlaugh
I have used them like 5x here and have been incredibly pleased each time.

I used Bookstore Movers when moving from Arlington to DC a few years back. Good experience overall.
Unusual-Sympathy9500
Seconded. I've used them more than once in Arlington and they're great.
NationalPoetry4408
Movers were very professional, but management is awful. They charged an extra 40 to move 1.8 miles. I've used them three times now but will never use them again. Buyer beware of their sketchy pricing activities. They don't treat their loyal customers well at all!

Unfortunately, I cannot justify giving Bookstore Movers any more than 2 stars.

Movers showed up on time but were not respectful of my things and rushed.

This service moved my roommate today and a member of the team stole money from my purse hanging by the door.

They dropped my new couch and completely broke it. Then they aggressively pushed me to sign the release paperwork and then disappeared before I noticed the damage. Avoid!

About 15 minutes ago one of your drivers Ran through a stop sign On Minnesota and Dix Street and I was about to cross. We have enough idiots out here Flying up and down the Street. if you Don't if you don't have GPS on your vehicles I please get some & talk with your Rude driver please don't get too Reputation.
Michael Washington
Their workers in DC are the worst! They Rude, talk aggressively to their customers I do not like how some movers come with the truck and then you have some movers drive their own car which I have no issue with I just would like for them to put a uniform in place I did not know who was who! They always Rushing even the I'm on time and they not!
Queen Me
We were eager to use Bookstore after a good experience in 2016. I can not recommend Bookstore and would not use them again.
joseph franklin
Buyer Beware! Movers are reckless and belligerent. Operations support generally don't care about solving problems.
Janie K.
Packers did not complete job, did not bring enough materials. Stuffed clothing in boxes without wardrobe boxes. TWO pieces of furniture with legs ripped off. THE WORST experience in 7 moves.
april g.
I haven't used them myself, but they have a bad habit of blocking bike lanes and sidewalks without providing a safe way around, then apologizing profusely when they get caught/reported, until the next time.
infinitebuffalo
Everyone will tell you Bookstore movers but I had a terrible, terrible experience with them a few years ago. We apparently got the B team.
