One Attorney, Three of the Most-Complained Moving Companies in America

In most industries, the attorney representing a company is unremarkable. In the household goods moving industry, where a small cluster of South Florida companies generates a disproportionate share of all consumer complaints filed with federal regulators, the attorney connections become part of the public record.

Lorri Lomnitzer of the Lomnitzer Law Firm PA is the attorney of record for three companies that rank among the highest-complaint movers in the FMCSA's National Consumer Complaint Database: Safe Ship Moving Services (DOT 3475743), Colonial Van Lines Inc. (DOT 1434373), and Amerisafe Vanlines (DOT 3341650).

This article documents what public records show about that representation. No allegation of wrongdoing against the attorney is made or implied. Attorneys represent clients. That is their job. But when the same law office appears across three of the most-complained moving companies in the country, the pattern is worth documenting.

Safe Ship Moving Services is a Boca Raton broker with 404 NCCDB complaints and 809 BBB complaints. It operates no trucks of its own (fleet size: 0) and dispatches shipments to carriers. Its authority status is Active.

Colonial Van Lines Inc. is a Pompano Beach carrier and broker with 121 NCCDB complaints and 142 BBB complaints. It operates 25 trucks. Colonial is connected to the DiSorbo family, a name that has appeared in federal investigations of the moving industry since the 1990s. Aldo DiSorbo was banned from the industry in 1997 and jailed for violating the ban in 2000. Colonial's authority status remains Authorized.

Amerisafe Vanlines is a Boynton Beach carrier and broker with 293 NCCDB complaints. It operates 6 trucks. Amerisafe is the subject of a May 2026 Assurance of Voluntary Compliance with the Florida Attorney General (Case L23-3-1566), covering ten entities and two individuals. Its FMCSA authority status is currently blank in the SAFER database.

Combined across Lomnitzer's three clients: 818 NCCDB complaints and over 1,093 BBB complaints.

Kelly desRosiers also appears as counsel in filings for Safe Ship and Colonial Van Lines. desRosiers is associated with the Lomnitzer Law Firm PA and bills at $375 per hour, according to fee schedules in court records. Lomnitzer bills at $450 per hour.

desRosiers signed a cease-and-desist letter on September 23, 2024, directed at a consumer advocacy organization, on behalf of Safe Ship Moving Services. The letter demanded the organization stop publishing consumer complaints about Safe Ship. This is consistent with a pattern we have documented across multiple high-complaint movers: using legal threats to suppress consumer reviews and complaint filings rather than addressing the underlying service issues.

The Lomnitzer Law Firm PA operates from 7999 N Federal Highway, Suite 202, Boca Raton, FL 33487.

A Florida SunBiz search reveals a corporate entity named '7999 Boca Properties LLC' registered at the same address, Suite 202. This suggests the attorney may own or have an ownership interest in the office building itself. This is not unusual for established law practices, but it does indicate a level of permanence and investment in the location.

The office is roughly 15 miles from Safe Ship's Boca Raton operations, 25 miles from Colonial's Pompano Beach headquarters, and 10 miles from Amerisafe's Boynton Beach base. All three clients are within a 30-mile radius of the firm.

Three moving company clients. Three of the most-complained companies in the country. All based in South Florida. The combined complaint count across these three clients: 818 NCCDB complaints and over 1,000 BBB complaints.

There are two ways to interpret this pattern.

The first: it is a coincidence. South Florida has a concentration of moving companies, and a Boca Raton law firm naturally attracts local clients. High-complaint companies need attorneys precisely because they face regulatory scrutiny, consumer lawsuits, and enforcement actions. An attorney who is good at defending these cases will attract more of them.

The second: it reflects a specialized practice. The moving industry's complaint leaders are not random companies scattered across the country. They are clustered in a specific geography (South Florida), connected through shared corporate structures and principals, and engaged in similar business practices. An attorney who represents multiple companies in this cluster is part of the infrastructure that allows them to operate.

Both interpretations can be true simultaneously. The question is not whether it is legal for an attorney to represent high-complaint moving companies. It plainly is. The question is whether the pattern of representation reveals something about how the industry's worst operators sustain themselves.

When one law firm handles the legal defense for companies generating a combined 818 federal complaints and over 1,000 BBB complaints, that firm becomes a node in the network. Not an illegal node. Not necessarily a culpable one. But a structural one.
