Military family doing a full Personally Procured Move (PPM) from Washington to Panama City, FL. Contracted with United for household goods. Movers showed up July 5 and demanded $30,000 total. Family backed out, gave some items to family, and let movers take two storage units for agreed-upon price. A week later, husband received weight ticket and new bill of lading claiming over $20,000 owed. Weight ticket showed truck weighed MORE empty than loaded. On delivery day August 28, movers showed up at 8pm in two box trucks demanding $10,000 in cash. When husband asked for proper weight tickets, movers gave photocopies with no company name. Husband refused delivery without documentation. Movers left. Next day, carrier's secretary called saying they had 30 minutes to wire $10,000 or belongings would leave the state. Family called sheriff and FHP but could not stop trucks. All photo albums, sentimental items, children's belongings taken. Police called during encounter.
