Some moving companies accumulate complaints at a steady pace. Others accelerate. This list tracks the 15 companies with the fastest year-over-year growth in federal consumer complaints filed through FMCSA's National Consumer Complaint Database (NCCDB).
Complaint acceleration matters more than raw complaint counts. A company going from 8 complaints to 158 in two years signals a systemic breakdown, not a one-off bad move. These are the companies where something is getting worse, not better.
The Fastest Accelerators
Howards Moving went from zero complaints in 2024 to 8 in 2025 to 158 through September 2026. That trajectory, from zero to triple digits in under two years, is the steepest acceleration in the dataset.
Menards Moving shows sustained high-volume growth: 44 complaints in 2024, 90 in 2025, and 156 through nine months of 2026. At the current pace, the 2026 total will exceed 200.
American Van Lines climbed from 24 complaints in 2024 to 30 in 2025 to 91 through September 2026. LoadRans Transport went from 7 to 39 to 73 in the same period. Goodview Moving escalated from 1 complaint in 2023 to 4, then 34, then 51 through partial 2026.
These are not seasonal fluctuations. They are persistent upward trends.
Why Complaint Rates Accelerate
Three patterns explain most complaint acceleration.
First, aggressive advertising without operational capacity. Companies spend heavily on lead generation, book more moves than they can handle, and subcontract to carriers with poor track records. Safe Ship's trajectory followed this pattern before plateauing.
Second, business model shifts. A carrier that begins brokering moves without adjusting its quality controls will see complaints spike as customers receive service from unknown third parties.
