Called what she thought was one company, a man named John answered and said he had an empty truck going from Billings to Denver, offered 2,000. Consumer is 67 with a disability and going through breast cancer recovery. Paid 1,000 by check. Movers showed up 2 hours late on Aug 15 in an Enterprise truck with Washington plates. Told her the move was now 9,000 instead of 2,000. If she refused pickup she would lose the 1,000 deposit. After 2.5 hours of haggling, a man named Abdul called back, was misogynistic, called her ignorant, threatened that delivery would take a month. Eventually agreed to take only a third of a truck. Took 1,000 cash, gave no receipt, no bill of lading, refused to let her photograph items on the truck. Items never delivered. At 4pm, a broker from Bronze Star Moving and Storage out of Florida called to finalize the move, learned items were already taken without paperwork. Consumer contacted police in Bridger MT, Department of Transportation (told her it was the hostage ransom scam), Sheriff of Carbon County WY, Sheriff of Hot Springs County WY, AARP. Consumer made a suicide attempt from the devastation. Stolen items include golf clubs, electric bike, 2,500 dollar dresser, freezer, daybed with 2 mattresses, hanging chair. Fraud counselor told her items are likely sold for bitcoin. We-Haul began calling after she contacted fraud recovery. Two weeks later, belongings still missing. Driver was Alex, helper was Poncho.
